This freshman level course surveys literature from around the world and focuses on the interactions between the texts you read and the texts you write. Specific units include basic high school study skills, short fiction, nonfiction, and the novel. In addition, students will work on developing their writing skills, particularly the five-paragraph essay format. Research skills are also included in the class and will introduce students to the library skills. Grammar and vocabulary study will target SAT preparation and specific problems as indicated in individual student writings. Oral communication skills will also be taught in the class, with students presenting various projects both individually and in small groups.
